Dear Sonrise Families,
"Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path." -Psalm 119:105
I have always loved this verse and the promise of guidance it offers.
Some years ago my husband and I took a cruise, and having a tight budget, we decided to book an interior, windowless cabin. Never before have I experienced such complete darkness as in that room! There was no dim light slipping around the edges of a window like at home, when even during the night, there might be a street light outside providing a tiny bit of light. When we awoke we couldn't tell if it was day or still nighttime; the darkness was so absolute. It was quite disorientating. We only discovered that it was morning by looking at a watch, so we got up and tried to avoid stumbling over something as one of us found our way to a light switch.
How dark the world would be without God's Word to illuminate our way. And how grateful I am for the Bible and God's certain guidance. Without it we can become disoriented and confused as if we're inside a dark room; we can stumble trying to find the right path. In John 8:12, Jesus said, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life." I am thankful that our Sonrise students memorize and recite scripture every morning at flag assembly, as well as learn Bible verses in their classrooms. Those passages, hidden in their hearts, will help them to stay steadfast and in the direction God has chosen for them.
What about you? Are you intentional about being in the Word? If you are not in a Bible study or have a reading plan, consider adding a Bible "verse of the day" app to your phone (I use the youversion.com Bible app). It might be just the light you need for your day!
