Dear Families,
I’m still somewhat reeling from the MS presentation of Little Mermaid. While it was a tremendous amount of work on the part of most everyone involved, the rewards were likewise tremendous. My perception is that everyone who had a hand in this production felt a wonderful sense of accomplishment when all was said and done.
There are two things in particular that stood out to me as we walked this journey of many weeks together. I think of them as the 2 big “T”’s: Talents and Teamwork. And the insights we gain from both of those T’s can go far beyond the delivery of a fun musical to appreciative students and parents.
The Talents by this group of middle schoolers is amazing, indeed. And the prayer for, and instruction to those talented individuals can be embodied in what we read in I Peter 4:10…”As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's grace.” May we all subscribe to this instruction for any talents we may possess.
The Teamwork we both worked at and ultimately realized was a lifelong lesson in love and cooperation. I was constantly amazed at how the students rooted for one another, in rehearsals, in the presentation itself, and finally in the realization of what that teamwork produced. Yes, sports and other activities can teach us those same attributes, but in our case here at Sonrise, musicals such as this is one of the unique activities that ALL students, regardless of special physical or mental giftings, could pull together as one team for a remarkable outcome.
My only hope is that someday before too long I will be able to stop all those songs from running through my head in a non-stop loop!
Love,
Mr. Carpenter
