Proverbs 22:6 NLT
Direct your children onto the right path, and when they are older, they will not leave it.
Growing up in the 1900s with 4 younger sisters, dial-up internet, and no cell phones to track down our parents, my sisters and I got into our fair share of trouble.
We “accidentally” locked our babysitter out of the house. We “didn’t know” it was bad to play ding dong ditch on our neighbors. When we flooded our hallway with our DIY Raging Waters we weren't trying to ruin our flooring, we were just hot and wanted to cool off. All those things and more (my poor parents) are some of my core memories.
Even though those memories make for some good stories, my fondest memories were when we would all sit down in our living room to have family devotionals. My mom and dad would have to wrangle us together to listen to my dad teach us the Word of God. Most of the time it did not go as smoothly as my parents would have liked. Someone would be annoyed that it was Friday night and we would miss T.G.I.F. Someone would have to go to the restroom. Someone was in someone else's “spot”. It was challenging, to say the least. The thing I remember the most is even though everyone would end up getting flustered and annoyed, my parents would push through and still pray with us and read to us. There were tears and raised voices sometimes, but they still did it. For that I am grateful they did not give up and they did what they were called to do, bring up their children in the ways of the Lord.
