Goodfight

Dear Sonrise Family,

Having been a jiu-jitsu coach in the past, I view almost everything in life now through the lens of training. We are always training for something.

Maybe you’re an avid golfer. In which case every swing, however good or bad, is an opportunity to learn and produce a better swing next time.

As a parent, not only are you training your children for a plethora of things, but you are also training yourselves to become better parents with each new situation you find yourself in.

Perhaps we can even be so bold as to view each argument in our relationships as a painful yet meaningful opportunity to reflect and grow. That is, after all, the intention of any training regiment, is it not? To reflect, to suffer temporarily, to make mistakes, to seek wisdom, and to persevere, all for the sake of some future glory. A better golf game. A better relationship with your children. A deeper relationship with your spouse.

“Rather train yourself for godliness; for while bodily training is of some value, godliness is of value in every way, as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come.” 1 Tim 4:7-8

Let us not forget the greatest future glory, that as a believer you will one day be crowned by a Holy God out of no merits of your own. May this be an encouragement to you today: that as we continue to fight the good fight of faith and train in godliness, this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison.

Mr. Hsu
