MLK

Driving the 15 freeway on my commute to work, I found myself needing something to pass the time during the 60-80 minute drive. From Christian hits to comedy. Moved on to audiobooks, where I enjoyed the British reading of “The Hobbit”, and the last book in the Harry Potter series.  Finally, I fell upon a podcast on the assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr. I did not expect to stay interested, but I looked forward to each new episode, hoping to learn more information about the mystery of his last days. I have a weakness for mysteries, ever since my Scooby Doo days as a kid!

I followed the journey of the multiple theories that the detectives were investigating and the evidence that seemed to come from everywhere and was surprised at all the details I had missed earlier. Details. It boggled my mind how detectives could keep track of them.

There are times that I can focus too much on details, that I don’t keep the big picture in mind. Dr. King, Jr led a life that imitated Christ. He kept the end goal in mind: the welfare of others and leading them to Christ. The details didn’t matter.  God will work out the details. I have learned to trust in this as I have become older.

I challenge you during this time of honoring MLK, Jr, to not busy yourself with details or how this will affect you, but look to the needs of others, to the ones that need a Savior, that need compassion that stems from the example of Jesus in Matthew 14,

“When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless” and “he healed them.”
