Waiting on God

On the way back from a recent vacation, we had a flat tire on the freeway. We limped off to the side of the road with not much shoulder space as the vehicles whizzed by. Each time that happened, our car violently shook. I kept thinking, “Whew, that was close!” A few times I thought we might even get hit. I closed my eyes thinking that might help. At that moment I was reminded I had no control of the situation. There was nothing to do but wait for help. So, in the waiting, I prayed.

Things are going to happen - that’s life. But when they do, where do you look for your help? Where do you choose to be? All these cars were racing past us; some place to be in a hurry and yet, not us. God wanted us right there at that time for whatever reason. The Lord had everything under control even though it did not look like it.

The next time you are stuck in a problem ask yourself, what does He want me to learn from this? We don’t know what our future holds. We don’t know what might have happened if we didn’t get that flat tire, or….that job, that answer to prayer. But what we can get is the peace and rest in just waiting for him; knowing every moment that happens he knows about ahead of time. Trust him. He knows what you need and when you need it.

Our tire was fixed and we went on our merry way. Psalm 27:14 says, “Wait for the Lord; be strong and take courage; wait for the Lord!”

I am thankful for that moment while waiting on the side of the road if only to have written down these words and be reminded of who God is and what he does for us.
